What is Post Nasal Drip?

Post Nasal Drip is the backward flow of mucus from the sinus cavities into the back of the throat. When one has Post Nasal drip they may experience one or more of the following:

  • Mucus stuck at the back of your throat.
  • A constant dripping of mucus down the back of your throat.
  • Sore or infected throat.
  • Constantly coughing or clearing your throat.
  • A gruffy voice
  • Constant wanting to blow your nose.

"The Key to relief is control mucus flow, get rid of any excess mucus and maintain mucus production" says Treveshen (MD)

SinusWars2 does just that, it helps control mucus secretion by our membranes, promotes drainage of excess mucus and controls mucus flow.

Nasal anatomy

Our nose is one of the easiest organs in our body that bacteria containing particles can invade and it provides a medium in which bacteria can flourish. Two of the nose’s main fighting agents against these dangerous particles are cilia and mucus.

  • Cilia are hair like structures found in the nasal passages which help transport mucus efficiently and effectively from the nasal passages towards the throat where it is swallowed and destroyed by the strong stomach acids.
  • Mucus is a thick, slippery fluid produced by the membrane that lines the nasal passages, throat and sinus cavities.

Post nasal drip is the feeling of mucus, which may be thick, colored or even infected, accumulating in the back of the naso-pharynx and throat or dripping down the back of the nose into the throat.

What is the function of mucus?

The body normally produces around two cups of mucus a day, which is usually swallowed unconsciously. Mucus is importants to the body's natural balance and provides the following functions:

  • Moistens and humidifies dry air
  • Helps trap and remove foreign particles
  • Helps get rid off bacteria and infections

What happens when the body increases its mucus production?

The body's normal mucus production can at times be accelerated as a result of an infection, foreign particle or allergic reaction to an allergen within the nasal passages and sinus cavities. This invasion of our delicate nose and surrounding structures results in the body sending white blood cells to the membrane lining of the nose as well as swelling of the nasal linings causing our bodies to produce more mucus to help flush away the irritant or bacteria containing particles.

As a result of the increased mucus production, the cilia are unable to transport mucus effectively, allowing the mucus to become thick and tenacious. This results in a blockage of the nasal passages and sinus cavities. The only alternative way for the mucus to exit these spaces is therefore down the back of your throat resulting in post nasal drip.

Our personal reaction to this increased mucus production is however the opposite of our bodies. We strive to get rid of it by blowing our noses, coughing or hawking the mucus up from the back of our throats and then swallowing. What you don't know however is that if there is a mucus infection or bacteria present in the mucus, it may be transferred into the ears via the delicate Eustachian tubes, forced into the sinus cavities or even cause chest and throat infections.

What causes Post Nasal Drip?
  • Inhaled Irritants - These minute particles cause swelling of the nasal and sinus lining and originate mostly in areas with a lot of smog and dust.
  • Dairy Products - These food substances may cause ones mucus to thicken, making effective mucus drainage difficult. Dairy products also cause an irritation to the delicate mucus membrane lining and stimulate the nasal lining to increase their production of mucus.
  • Continuously eating foods that you are allergic too - This will cause mucus to thicken, resulting in poor mucus drainage and congested nasal passages.
  • Living in dry areas - This dry environment may cause the drying out of nasal mucus, making it thick and difficult to get rid off. This stagnant mucus is then a perfect host for bacteria to live and thrive in.
  • Smoking - Causes an irritation and inflammation of the delicate mucus membrane lining of the nasal passages. This causes an increase in the amount of mucus the nasal membrane secretes.
Smoking also causes damage to the cilia, decreasing their ability to transport this excess mucus.
  • Avoid drinking caffeine containing products and alcohol - As these substances may cause the drying out and thickening of mucus.
  • Colds and flu - Ones immune system is lowered when one is suffering from a cold or flu. This makes it easier for a person to develop post nasal drip and sinus infections.
  • Throat and Swallowing disorders - These disorders may result in an accumulation of fluids, mucus and solid particles in the back of the throat. This accumulation of foods and liquids may cause the glands of your throat to increase their mucus production resulting in post nasal drip.
Any growth or swelling in, or at the back of the throat may also prevent one from swallowing the mucus which will then stagnate, becoming thick and tenacious and creating another perfect environment for sinusitis creating bacteria.
  • Pregnancy and Birth control pills - Both these factors cause fluctuations in ones bodily hormones. These fluctuations may cause one to experience an increase in mucus production and consequently result in post nasal drip.

What are the Symptoms of Post Nasal Drip?
  • A constant cough and a need to clear ones throat regularly
  • Frequent sore throats
  • A upset stomach due to an excess of slightly acidic mucus running down the back of your throat and into your digestive system
  • A bad breath or "halitosis" may be due to a sinus infection with post nasal drip
  • A person swallows less frequently when sleeping which causes an accumulation of mucus and fluids to build up at the back of the throat. This results in coughing, sneezing and hawking up of thick mucus in the morning after one has woken up.

What are the consequences of untreated Post Nasal Drip?

Untreated post nasal drip may lead to:

  • A sore throat
  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Ear infections and sinus related tinnitus due to the sinus infection spreading to the ears via the delicate Eustachian tubes.
(Tinnitus is a condition whereby continuous ringing, buzzing or other sounds are heard by a person without there being any external source of sounds).
  • A sinus infection which is usually noticeable by green, yellow, white, opaque, grey or colored mucus may occur. This happens when bacteria containing particles become trapped in the mucus and begin to multiply. This mucus provides an environment in which bacteria can thrive, not only increasing the duration that one will have a sinus infection, but also the severity of the sinus infection.
  • Halitosis or severe bad breath which not only affects ones confidence levels but also ones ability to form strong relationships.

How can I effectively treat my Post Nasal Drip?

It is important that one drink lots of water during the day as these liquids help stimulate mucus flow, preventing it from becoming stagnant and thick.

Washing your nasal passages regularly with a saline solution containing no preservatives helps to wash away any harmful bacteria or foreign particles which may be trapped in the nasal passages or sinus cavities. This irrigation of ones nasal cavities will not however treat the underlying cause of a sinus infection or sinus related conditions.

THIS IS WHERE SINUSWARS CAN HELP YOU!!

SinusWars2 is a natural remedy that has been proven to be extremely effective in stopping Post Nasal Drip.

By treating the underlying causes of your post nasal drip, SinusWars2 helps prevent it from recurring. This means you can say "Goodbye" to those tissues forever.

SinusWars2 is the ultimate Post Nasal Drip remedy giving you a fast acting, safe and effective treatment against mucus and "phlegmy" throats.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy

Homeopathy (also spelled Homoeopathy or Homœopathy) is a form of alternative medicine, first proposed by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1796, that treats patients with heavily diluted preparations which are thought to cause effects similar to the symptoms presented. Homeopathic remedies are prepared by serial dilution with shaking by forceful striking, which homeopaths term "succussion," after each dilution under the assumption that this increases the effect of the treatment. Homeopaths call this process "potentization". Dilution often continues until none of the original substance remains.[1]

Apart from the symptoms of the disease, homeopaths use aspects of the patient's physical and psychological state in recommending remedies.[2] Homeopathic reference books known as repertories are then consulted, and a remedy is selected based on the totality of symptoms. Homeopathic remedies are considered safe, with rare exceptions.[3] However, some homeopaths have been criticized for putting patients at risk with advice to avoid conventional medicine such as vaccinations,[4] anti-malarial drugs,[5] and antibiotics.[6] In many countries, the laws that govern the regulation and testing of conventional drugs do not apply to homeopathic remedies.[7]

Claims of homeopathy's efficacy beyond the placebo effect are unsupported by the collective weight of scientific and clinical evidence.[8][9][10][11][12] While some studies have positive results, systematic reviews of all the published trials fail to conclusively demonstrate efficacy.[13][14][15][16][17] Furthermore, higher quality trials tend to report less positive results,[18][15] and most positive studies have not been replicated or show methodological problems that prevent them from being considered unambiguous evidence of homeopathy's efficacy.[8][11][19][20]

Homeopathic remedies generally contain few or no pharmacologically active ingredients,[21] and for such remedies to have pharmacological effect would violate fundamental principles of science.[12][22] Modern homeopaths have proposed that water has a memory that allows homeopathic preparations to work without any of the original substance; however, the physics of water are well understood, and no known mechanism permits such a memory.[22][23] The lack of convincing scientific evidence supporting homeopathy's efficacy[24] and its use of remedies lacking active ingredients have caused homeopathy to be described as pseudoscience[25] and (more plainly) as quackery by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.[26] and more recent writers.[27][28][29]

Drug Administration

Homeopathic Pharmacy

Drug Administration

In Homoeopathy mode of administration is special and is based on the following guidelines given in the Organon of Medicine.

(1) Medicines are given by oral and olfaction method.

(2) 'In no case it is requisite to administer more than one single, simple medicine at one time' (See 272, 5th edition, Organon of Medicine.)

(3) 'It is wrong to attempt to employ complex means when simple means suffice'.

(4) 'The smaller the dose of the homoeopathic remedy is, so much the slighter and shorter is this apparent increase of the disease'.

(5) 'This minutest yet powerful dose of the best selected medicine be repeated at suitable intervals which experiences shall pronounce to be best adopted for accelerating to cure i.e. do not repeat so long the signs of improvement continue.

(6) Corporeal constitution, magnitude of the disease, nature of the medicinal substance-specially in psoric cases will decide the question of 'smallest dose' and repetition.

(7) There are specific instructions for application of a remedy in cases of intermittent fever. The best time is-when the temperature is coming down. In case of menstrual difficulties, the best time is the post menstrual period.

(8) The diet and regimen which can have any medicinal action should not be taken, in order that the small dose may not be over-whelmed and extinguished or disturbed by any irritant.

(9) Medicines should not be given during their aggravation time (day or night) of the drug.

(10) The most appropriate and efficacious time for administering the medicine in cases of intermittent fever is immediately or very soon after the termination of the paroxism (Vide aphorism 236-237, 5th edition of Organon of Medicine).

In this context a person concerned with Homoeopathy should read the following aphorism of 5th edition of Organon of Medicine-288, 289, 290,291, 292. Footnote 2(288), 1(239), 1(292).

Homeopathic Vehicles

The term 'vehicle' implies, "Means of conveyance or transmission", In Homeopathy vehicle is a substance, in which medicines are prepared or mixed and given for their internal administrations either by oral or olfaction method and external application for medications. These substances are comparatively inert as such taken as a means of developing the therapeutic activity of medicinal substance.

AN IDEAL VEHICLE

I. It must not have any medicinal property of its own.

2. It should be chemically neutral; neither acidic nor alkaline in medicinal effects. They must not undergo change or decomposition,

3, The above two specific properties are more applicable to those which are used in potentising medicines.

4. It must be harmless regarding its action on human organisms. The pharmacological message of the original drug is not disturbed in any way.

5 It should be capable of carrying the dynamic powers of drugs into interior human organisms to fight the disease force.

6. It should be edible and palatable.

Uses of Vehicles :

1. Vehicles are used in the preparation of mother tinctures, mother solutions and mother powders from crude drug materials and without any vehicles these preparation could not be made.

2. It is used for further triturations and increased potentisation from the mother, so that pharmaceutical message is easily carried and therapeutic values are retained of the particular drug substances.

3 Used as bases for preparing external applications of medicines.

4. For dispensing medicines or remedies according to the prescriptions of physicians.

5. Vehicles like olive oil, vaseline, glycerine, etc. are themselves applied externally as a mechanical aid only.

6. As a preservant or certain medicines, vehicle like alcohol is mixed in certain percentage with the freshly expressed juices of plants (vide Organon of Medicine, aphorism 268, footnote).

7. Used as 'placebo' or 'phytum' in between the administrations of the two doses of medicines or remedies, especially in cases of chronic diseases and where long-acting remedies are used. Dr. Kent holds, "Second best medicine in our Materia Medica is placebo", which is given to the patient to please.

8. Sick babies who could not tolerate fats, sugar of milk is given as a diet.

Forms of Vehicles

There are two forms of vehicles: 1. Solid and 2. Liquid.

Solid Vehicles:

1. Milk sugar or Sugar of milk( saccharum Lactis, Lactose).

2. GlobuleS or pillules.

3. Pellets.

4. Tablets or Tabloids.

5. Cones.

Liquid Vehicles

1. Aqua Distillata (Distilled Water)

2. Alcohol - Absolute Alcohol, Strong Alcohol, Dispensing Alcohol, Dilute Alcohol

3. Glycerine

4. Olive Oil

5. Almond Oil

Preparation of Drugs & Homeopathic Scales of Dilution

Introduction - There are three essential processes involved in preparation of remedies: (a) Serial dilution, (b) Succussion, (c) Trituration.

Dilution is the means by which we reduce the toxicity of the original crude drug. Serial dilution means that each dilution is prepared from the dilution that immediately preceded it.

Collection of Drug Substances

Though the aphorism of the Organon of Medicine and its certain portion are not directly connected with the process of collection, yet the advices given by Hahnemann forms the fundamentals of preparing a drug, in which the process of collecting a drug substance is an important part for the genuineness of the drug so prepared. In aphorism 264 of Organon of Medicine, Hahnemann holds, "The true physician must be provided with genuine medicine of unimpaired strength, so that he may be able to rely upon their therapeutic powers." In aphorism 66 of Organon be also emphasises that "substances belonging to the animal and vegetable kingdoms, possess their medicinal qualities most perfectly in their raw state". As such advices of Hahnemann are to use fresh animal and vegetable drug substances

Homeopathy is a system of medicine founded on a definite law 'Similia Similibus Curantur' which means 'like cures like'. According to this system, the choice of the medicine is fundamentally based on the principle that the medicine must have the capability of producing most similar symptoms of the disease to be cured in healthy persons. The word Homeopathy is a Greek derivation where 'homeos' means 'similar' and 'pathos' means 'suffering'. So Homeopathy may be defined as the therapeutic method of symptom-similarity. The recognition of this law was there even before Hahnemann. Paracelus, Hippocrates, and ancient ayuervedic texts have on occasions mentioned this law. But it was Hahnemann who recognized the universality of this law and lifted it from oblivion to make it the basis of a complete system of medicine.

Homeopathy is a natural medicine that treats the wholeperson

Homeopathy is a natural medicine that treats the wholeperson

The remedies which are used are a safe and effective way of treating variety of conditions such as eczema, asthma, hay-fever, hormonal problems, insomnia and stress related illnesses.

Homeopathy is one of the most widely used forms of medicine in the world today, because people are discovering the benefits of a system of medicine that is safe, effective and treats them as unique individuals.

Remedies are chosen to treat the whole person, because the mind and body operate as one, and you cannot treat one part of the body without affecting the whole. Remedies are chosen to fit all the characteristics of the person, so physical symptoms are considered in relation to an individual’s mental and emotional state.

Homeopathy works on a principle known as ‘the law of similars’. This law states that a substance that can cause a disease can also relieve it. For example coffee is a stimulant that can cause temporary insomnia. Coffea (homeopathic coffee) may be used to relieve insomnia.

Most homeopathic remedies come from plants, minerals and some animal poisons (like bee sting), they are prepared in a special way to improve their healing qualities and reduce unwanted side effects. The remedies are usually supplied in tablet, powder or liquid form. It really works

HOMEOPATHY

HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathy (also spelled homÅ“opathy or homoeopathy), from the Greek words homoios (similar) and pathos (suffering), is a system of medicine, notable for its practice of prescribing water-based solutions that do not contain chemically active ingredients. The theory of homeopathy was developed by the Saxon physician Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843) and first published in 1796.This homeopathic preparation began with the herb known as marsh Labrador tea, then was serially diluted to a factor of 1 part in 1030: a level of dilution so high that it almost certainly contains no molecules of the original herb.

HomeoTreatments

HomeoTreatments

Homeopaths generally begin with detailed examinations of their patients' histories, including questions regarding their physical, mental and emotional states, their life circumstances and any physical or emotional illnesses. The homeopath then attempts to translate this information into a complex formula of mental and physical symptoms, including likes, dislikes, innate predispositions and even body type.[96] The goal is to develop a comprehensive representation of each individual's overall health. This information can then be compared with similar lists in the drug provings found in the homeopathic materia medica. Assisted by further dialogues with the patient, the homeopath then aims to find the drug most closely matching the "symptom totality" of the patient. There are many methods for determining the most-similar remedy (the simillimum), and homeopaths sometimes disagree. This is partly due to the insurmountable complexity of the "totality of symptoms" concept. That is, homeopaths do not include all symptoms when determining which medicine is most appropriate, but decide for themselves which are the most characteristic. This subjective evaluation of case analysis relies on the knowledge and experience of the homeopath doing the diagnosis................

Hahnemann's Concept

Hahnemann's Concept

Hahnemann conceived of homeopathy while translating a medical treatise by Scottish physician and chemist William Cullen into German. Being skeptical of Cullen's theory concerning cinchona's action in malaria,Hahnemann ingested some of the bark specifically to see if it cured fever "by virtue of its effect of strengthening the stomach". Upon ingesting the bark, he noticed few stomach symptoms, but did experience fever, shivering and joint pain, symptoms similar to some of the early symptoms of malaria, the disease that the bark was ordinarily used to treat. From this,Hahnemann came to believe that all effective drugs produce symptoms in healthy individuals similar to those of the diseases that they treat. This later became known as the "law of similars", the most important concept of homeopathy.[37] The term "homeopathy" was coined by Hahnemann and first appeared in print in 1807, although he began outlining his theories of "medical similars" in a series of articles and monographs in 1796.

Current scenario of Homeopathy

Current scenario of Homeopathy

Today there are more than 400 Homeopathy Medical Colleges in the world, at least 5,00,000 practitioners, and millions of patients using Homeopathy. Homeopathic medicines are available in most countries and in some countries like India, Pakistan, and Norway, the legal status of Homeopathy is already at par with allopathy.
After discovering that one basic principle in 1792, Hahnemann established Homeopathy as a full system of medicine in the next 50 years. Homeopathy became very popular in the 19th century. It went through a phase of decline in 20th century when the sciences considered auxiliary to allopathic medicine (anatomy, physiology, pathology, surgery) became more advanced; modern drugs like antibiotics and painkillers came into existence; and insurance companies took hold of the medical practice. But now, as apparent limitations of these modern wonder (!) drugs are being realized and more work is being done on scientific and clinical research in Homeopathy, this science is gradually coming back to the center-stage.

What can homeopathy do for you

What can homeopathy do for you

Homeopathy can help treat illnesses that may have appeared recently or that you have had for a long time. It is a safe and effective treatment for a wide range of complaints, for people of all ages, including children. These include: allergies, auto-immune disease, anxiety, chronic pain, depression, fertility problems, gastric ailments, low energy, hormonal disorders, phobias, post traumatic stress, skin complaints and sleep difficulties. Homeopathy can also bring ease to adjust to significant life stages such as birth, puberty, pregnancy, menopause or bereavement.

Effective homeopathic treatment can very quickly improve your energy and feeling of well being. In the longer term it can help you maintain good health and prevent illness.

Historical context of Homeopathy

Historical context of Homeopathy

Homeopathy came about in the late 18th century, when mainstream medicine employed such measures as bloodletting and purging, the use of laxatives and enemas, and the administration of complex mixtures, such as Venice treacle, which was made from 64 substances including opium, myrrh, and viper's flesh. Such measures often worsened symptoms and sometimes proved fatal. While the virtues of these treatments had been extolled for centuries, Hahnemann rejected such methods as irrational and unadvisable. Instead, he favored the use of single drugs at lower doses and promoted an immaterial, vitalistic view of how living organisms function, believing that diseases have spiritual, as well as physical causes. (At the time, vitalism was part of mainstream science; in the twentieth century, however, medicine discarded vitalism, with the development of microbiology, the germ theory of disease,[33] and advances in chemistry.[34][35]) Hahnemann also advocated various lifestyle improvements to his patients, including exercise, diet, and cleanliness

Homeopathy and Women’s Health

Homeopathy and Women’s Health

Women go through different stages in their lives such as puberty, pregnancy and childbirth, motherhood and menopause. Today these stages have become medicalised and are often seen by the medical profession as illnesses. And while we all recognize the benefits of conventional medicine, there are alternatives, which can be more effective, natural and holistic, such as Homeopathy.
Homeopathy can work directly with the hormonal system to help it to become more balanced and to work more efficiently. It also enables women to explore the emotional aspects to the changes they are experiencing. These can be monthly

Herbal Healing

Herbal Healing

Herbal healing is most used
form of healing throughout the world. Because so much knowledge is available now about herbs, the field of herbal medicine is limitless. We also have much proof now of the safety of herbs when they are used appropriately.
The nice thing about herbs is that they often work just as well and often times better than medications. Pharmaceutical companies don't like to admit it, but a good portion of the medications that they make are derived from herbs to begin with. The advantage of using herbs is that they are in their pure, natural state where medications have been altered from the way God intended them to be used.

WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY

WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathy is based on the law of similars which states that "like cures like". This idea was first introduced by Hippocrates. Then, in the year 1796, a doctor named Samuel Christian Hahnemann first introduced his theories of homeopathy. He found that he was able to cure disease by administering a substance that caused the same symptoms as the diseased state.
One example of this can be found when cutting an onion. The oils from the onion cause us to become teary, with watery eyes and nose. When the onion is made into a homeopathic remedy it is especially helpful in treating cold or hay fever symptoms where the person has a runny nose or eyes. This is the law of similars at work.
Hahnemann became such a successful healer that people would line the streets to see him. Today, homeopathy is one of the most successful healing therapies available.
If you have tried homeopathics and saw no results, don't give up. Homeopathics are sometimes hard to prescribe. There is much to learn and understand about homeopathics. Most people that are not successful with homeopathics either have the wrong remedy, have the wrong potency, have not repeated their dose correctly or have antidoted their remedy

The aim is to find the specific remedy for you as an individual. To do that the homeopath needs to first develop a complete picture of you as a person. They will work with you to find out what makes you unique and then choose a remedy that stimulates your own natural healing energies. Each consultation is confidential and will last approximately 1.5 hours for your first visit. The homeopath works with you to identify your goals for treatment. You will need to return 4 to 6 weeks later for a follow-up appointment to assess the effect of the remedy. Follow-up appointments last 45 minutes to 1 hour.
